Oh hello! It’s me, Micaela, your story coach. I went very quiet. I’m sorry about that.
I’m going to be so honest about why I haven’t written: I got scared.
I launched my newsletter, wrote a few carefully edited posts, and then I got very stressed about perfection. And it just shut me right up.
I always tell my students not to let perfect get in their way, but it REALLY got in mine. And that stops today. I’m back, with regular (not-so-perfect) posts.
If it’s REALLY been a while, and you’re wondering who I am:
I’m Micaela Blei, Ph.D., and I’m an award-winning storyteller and story coach.
I’ve coached hundreds of storytellers, written a storytelling curriculum used by thousands of teachers and students worldwide, shared my stories in sold-out theaters across the country and had stories featured on This American Life, The Moth and more.
I help creative people tell better stories – so they can share what matters to them with honesty and impact.
You can read more about me here.
Here are just 3 things I’ve been up to since you heard from me last:
I launched a brand new seasonal outdoor storytelling series, called Backyard Stories, here in Portland, ME, with my friend and colleague Katie Irwin
I finished recording a BIG creative project that I can’t wait to tell you all about
I learned how to sea kayak!
So here’s the kinder, gentler Story Letter.
This newsletter is for you if you tell stories at work or in life – or if you’re just interested in how great stories get told.
Every week or so, I’ll share a quick post about storytelling — stories, strategies, recommendations and resources inspired by the week we just had.
If you’re sticking around, then welcome (back)!
To thank you for being here, here’s a 1-minute video that feels like it was made just for me (and maybe you too?).
Next time, I’ll tell you why I feel so emotionally connected to this mash-up, and what it’s taught me about storytelling.
I’ll see you soon (and this time I mean it!).
Respectfully and enthusiastically yours,
Micaela
Yay Micaela! I'm glad you're back!
Greetings from Storrs, fun to read your update. Wishing you the best and looking forward to what you having coming out next.
